I've been meaning to download Blue October's new single for a while now - pretty much since I first heard it a few months ago. I finally did it today, but decided while I was at it that I may as well download the whole album. It was only $10 for 13 songs, and I like the other album I already have by them.

Interestingly enough, it was about two and a half years ago that I first heard Blue October. My roommate liked to listen to them and I copied some of his music. A quick aside to point out that this band sold an album only because I had previously acquired their music without having to pay for it. I wasn't even thinking about this until after I'd already bought the album, but if I didn't know the band, I would've only bought the single.

I said that it's interesting that I first heard them a couple years ago. The radio version of the single cuts the intro portion from the version in the album. When I listened to the intro, it all flooded back to me for a minute.

The song starts out with a message on an answering machine:
Hey Just, this is your mother. It is 2:33 on Monday afternoon. I was just calling to see how you were doing; you sounded really uptight last night, made me a little nervous, and a little-and-well, it made me nervous that, you sounded like you were nervous too. And I just wanted to make sure you were really OK, and...just wanted to see if you were checking in on your medications. You know I love you! And I'll talk to you soon. Take care, honey, I know you're under a lot of pressure. See ya! Bye bye.

Thanks, mom, for never giving up.

I'm sober now for three whole months
It's one accomplishment that you helped me with
The one thing that always tore us apart
Is the one thing I won't touch again
In my sick way I want to thank you
For holding my head up late at night
While I was busy waging wars on myself
You were trying to stop the fight
You never doubted my warped opinions
    On things like suicidal hate
    You made me compliment myself
When it was way too hard to take
