I'm still alive. Or so my pulse says.

Long weekend, but it was good to go home, even for a day or two.

Long day today, sitting in front of a computer trying to learn Pro/E. And what do I do when I come home? Sit in front of a computer. I think I'll split the big long ramble into several shorter ones... those are so much easier to read.

Long drive over the weekend... I got a speeding ticket. I hate Utah cops... He was in oncoming traffic, no top lights or anything, and *bam* he turns on the lights in front and motions for me to pull over. I'm already broke, I really don't need a ticket on top of that. I guess that's what I get for speeding, though.

On my way up to SLC to my Uncle Barry's, I drove behind a Highway Patrol car. He was going an easy 72 mph in a 55 zone... through construction. That's a $250 ticket. But he's a cop, so it's okay.

My new ISP pretty well sucks. First of all, I was told "free high speed internet with rent." Okay, so I call to set it up this morning, and it turns out that the free internet with rent is 64K. Who the heck calls 64K high speed internet? What the heck? So I paid the fee for a reasonable speed ($70-something for 512K). Since I've got the money to burn, right?

The downloads were dragging way bad, so I ran a test to see what speed it's actually running at. According to this site, I was running at a blazing 83kbps, and now it's down to about 50kbps. But the upload speed was over 1.2 Mbps this morning (now it's down to like 300kbps). And there were network outages. So I called and complained. And will every day that I get on and it's running at less than 256. Cause I'm paying out the nose to get away from dialup speeds, and don't want to waste my money.

Carolyn's having her birthday party on Friday in Canada. She seems to really want me to come up. And I'd love to go. If nothing else, it's really flattering to have someone care enough to beg to have me around. I can't remember the last time anybody other than my mom cared two cents whether I came to visit them or not.

Of course, the problem is that it's in Canada. As I've mentioned in the last three entries, I'm broke. Dead flat broke, and building up the credit card. I don't have a job at the moment. Just promises that if I finish learning Pro/E, then I'll get a good internship. I don't have a very new car. I'm always afraid that it'll conk out on me on the next trip. And Canada's a long trip. Perhaps a bit to long of a trip to rely on hitch-hiking to get home.

And it looks like I'd have to drive alone. Cause everybody that I know from Canada right now (Carolyn and Jeremy) are in Canada. Plus, who else can leave tomorrow and come back on Sunday? To go see somebody they don't know.

I'd really, really like to go. Please forgive me, Carolyn... I'll try to make it up some other time (not that she reads this anyway). Now if only somebody within a 100-mile radius would care enough to beg me to come see them.
