|Stupid cell phones... Well, stupid (singular) cell phone.
I was coming home after work and getting some notes together and stuff. About 10:15 in the evening, pretty dark outside. As I passed the back of the Wilkinson Center, I saw her come out. I wasn't sure at first if it was her, so I didn't say anything at first. She rounded the corner of the fence at about the same time as I did, she going one way, and I the other.
Now, I expected that it would be a brief passing "hey there," but as I passed on the right, she said hi and started to turn around to face me as I passed. *Score*. Well, not necessarily something to -cheer- about yet, but nonetheless very cool.
Oh yeah... I'm talking about one of the girls from catering. She's the one that I tried to ask out once or twice, but didn't really have a good opportunity.I *think* her name was Lindsey. Almost positive. Didn't totally figure that out until after it was over. She was so much fun to talk to while we worked on the dishes together. And, of course, she's one of the most gorgeous girls I've seen this entire year. It was dark, but as far as I could tell, she was just as beautiful as ever.
Okay, so with the simple act of her turning to say more than hi, my heart jumped into my throat. I paused and turned to face toward her. A few more pleasentries were exchanged as I took a step or two forward. I dunno what all was said exactly, but she did ask if I was planning on working catering for the football games again next year.
Now I'd like to imagine that if given a little bit of time, I'd've possibly gotten her phone number and maybe even a date. At least found out if she was planning on sticking around for the summer. I'd like to imagine, but I can't say one way or the other. Because her cell phone rang.
Her cell phone rang, and I didn't actually have any reason to hang around through her phone call. So I said good-bye, that I hoped to see her soon. And I certainly did and do hope to see her again. Stupid cell phone. The next time, I'll have to be quicker on my feet and ask the important questions right off the bat. I hope I can pull it off. I hope I get the chance.
