Sunshine

Woke up late. Somehow, I kept thinking that my nine o'clock class was at ten. Combined with the (ever present) tiredness, it was hard to wake up at 8. I realized my folly at about quarter 'til. By that time, of course, I barely had enough time to comb my hair and throw on a shirt before I ran out.

Stepped into the oppressive gray smog. I thought to myself that it's going to be a long day. The sun was a small disk in the South-eastern sky. Small, cold, and distant. Trudged through the disgusting air to class.

Religion class. We always start with a hymn and a prayer. My luck is that the hymn is "Sunshine In My Soul Today." There is no sunshine, I say to myself. The opening prayer starts with an expression of gratitude. A silent counterpart in my head says "I have so much, help me to be grateful."

Class ends, step outside. It seems that the weather has changed. Off to the east, the last remnants of the smog are being blown away to the south. Mountains rise above it giving a cheerful hello to the valley that was previously blocked from view. The sun peeks its face out over the smog and greets those below. But for the fact I have to spend the entire day indoors, it could be a good day after all.
