|-poetry, reply to "The Dance" by Erin
|A slow beat dictates I must go on
And find a partner for one more song
My eyes scan quickly but cannot see
The girl I want to dance with me.
She said she'd be here an hour ago
But where she is, I do not know
I'd dreamed of dancing the night away
With that one girl, but now why stay?
Eyes flick across the room and spy
Another girl who catches my eye.
She's not the one for whom I search
But I go to draw her from her perch
Calmly, smoothly, offer my hand
And hope she'll naturally understand
She reaches out and I feel her touch
As soft as the one I care for so much.
I hope she doesn't see as we dance
That around the room I calmly glance
I continue to look but still don't find
The one I'd like to become mine.
Not the shortcomings of this sweet one
I dance with her, and sure it's fun
'Tis simply my longings for the girl of dreams
A girl I'll never have, it seems.
